WIP 2015 – Our client bought a run-down Portugese style “villa” with a clay tile pitched roof. The home is currently split into two apartments. They wanted to renovate the ground floor with a view to converting the house into one in 5 years, when the family of 4 grew. Key elements to the brief were: privacy; alfresco dining and cooking; family friendly; entertainment areas for watching sport – inside & out; safety.
The Cosmoplitan couple have lived in many American and European cities and were used to compact apartment living. The brief was modern and comfortable with a London townhouse feel – they were not afraid of colour but couldn’t have any white furnishings – dust being a constant feature of the city. This was a challenging project as the plans and engineering drawings were all in Portugese and meetings were all conducted over skype and dropbox. The shell of the house was kept. Modern ameneties and lighting could be achieved by stripping the inside bare. Only the timber exterior shutters were kept as a feature.
