Client: Hout Bay, Cape Town
Scope: Internal remodel. Décor
A love of wild English gardens, and collections of disparate furniture – part “Boere Baroque” part Edwardian English & French style – was the starting point for our client’s Modern Meets Classicist brief.
The house had good bones but needed some soul and re-thinking of spaces. Emphasis was given to maximizing views – turning an unused balcony into a bathroom and dressing room; the children’s playroom into a grand, airy and light filled dining room; and an open mezzanine into the main bedroom en-suite.
“A dining room to cater for large family gatherings. We injected character and scale into the room with a classic stone fireplace surround. We pierced blank walls with picture windows to frame the mountain views, and added French doors to open out onto the pool deck. The ceiling was removed to expose the trusses, which were dressed and draped with chandeliers.”
